A Genome-wide Association Study in Han Chinese Identifies Multiple Susceptibility loci for IgA Nephropathy, Nature Genetics, 25 December 2011. Dr. James Chan, (a former Board Director of CASN, professor of pediatrics at Tufts University and Director of Research, Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, Maine Medical Center) received the 2011 Barnett award, the highest honor from the American Academy of Pediatrics Nephrology Section "for outstanding contributions to pediatric nephrology.
Dr. Alan Yu (MD) has recently moved from USCV to become the Director of the Division of Nephrology and the Kidney Institute at the University of Kansas (KU). The Kidney Institute at KU is an interdepartmental research institute focused on kidney disease research, housed in 20,000 sq. ft. of research space with 12 funded investigators and a rich history of scientific achievement, particularly in the area of polycystic kidney disease. Both the Division and the Institute, which have the strong support of the leadership of the medical school, are poised for major expansions.
Dr. Zhi-Hong Liu, (MD, Professor, Academician, Director of Institute of Nephrology at Nanjing University, President-elect of the Chinese Society of Nephrology) has been elected to the ISN Council.
Dr. Nan Chen, (MD, Professor, Chief of Department of Nephrology, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Vice President of Chinese Society of Nephrology & Chinese Association of Nephrologists, President of Shanghai Society of Nephrology, Committee Member for Asian Forum of CKD Initiative and the Councilor of Chinese Society of Blood Purification Administration) received this year's International Distinguished Medal in the National Kidney Foundation 2011 Spring Clinical Meeting in Las Vegas, USA.
